Hi Folks:
I'm wondering if I might be able to update a device firmware on my NMEA2000 network with my Raymarine A77 MFD. I'm guessing the answer is no, but thought I'd ask. Specifically, I have a Garmin branded DST800 (=Airmar DST200), which may need a firmware update.
If not, is the way forward to get something like a Maretron USB100?
Thanks, Peter
Sorry, Peter, firmware updating over NMEA 2000 is almost entirely brand specific. However, Garmin does have a tool for your situation:

Does this mean that garmin will allow you to do firmware updates to displays and sensors without an mfd?
It appears that for raymarine and b&g updates you have to have one of their brand mfds on the network?
That's the only thing the Garmin Updater can do.
The B&G Triton2 instrument display has a USB port for updating it and other B&G devices on a NMEA 2000 network:

Hmmm. So seems like a negative point for raymarine? Need an mfd to update i70s amd sensors I think.
But then again Raymarine has some small network MFDs that aren't that far in cost from a Triton2.
The Airmar DST200/800 devices can be upgraded only by use of Airmar's WeatherCaster software running on a PC with a (supported) N2K interface. Either Airmar's own or an Actisense NGT-1. I have used the latter many times to update my own sensors in the past and some other folks the last few years.
