Just bought a Swan 43 sailboat and want to mount a B&G Zeus (9 or 12) on the pedestal guard. The guard is not very tall so there is not enough room to install a typical Navpod. Has anyone mounted a MFM at the helm without a pod protecting the back? The new displays are supposed to be waterproof and I wonder if I could just use the supplied bracket to install the display.

I think that would work OK, especially if you apply a little silicone grease to the cable connectors and plug blanks for extra waterproof insurance. I don't think it will look very good, though, and you might accidentally snag one of those exposed cables with bad results.
Have you considered something like the SeaView SPOD...

...or ScanStrut pods and Rokk mounts...

Both seem able to clamp a pod firmly to the top of a helm guard, tho not sure they can handle a 9 or 12 inch MFD.
