Hi, my first topic, but been watching for some time. I have just put a Garmin 7410xsv on my boat in the UK. Fabulus traditional view and down vue, but ... I have some images which show a swirl for example in the middle of the sidevue screen within 60 ft of the midline in 250ft of water, but there is nothing on traditional or down vue screens. not even a blip. What am I missing please and is there an idiots guide to interpreting this view. Have picked up edges of reefs etc but I just do not understand this image in side vue - I must have hit the wrong button somewhere as the chart failed to record even though I had a file full notice pop upon an 8gb card. Thanks in advance, fingers crossed one of you experts has the answer

The swirling you saw was probably prop wash, which shows up well on a typical side view screen (though you probably can suppress it with TVG or similar adjustment). You might not even recall crossing another boat's track but the wash can last quite a while.
Side view screens are not natural to most boaters so I did once attempt to explain what you're seeing. Hope it helps:
