It says its output is NMEA 0183. I was thinking of cutting off the USB, supplying 5 volts (12v to 5 volt ps is less than $5.00) and then using the GPS output of the receiver for my DSC on my radio. I will eventually upgrade to a NMEA 2000 VHF, but am looking to have the emergency DSC on the backup radio.
Any computer gurus? NMEA 0183 experts?

Won't work, USB is not RS-422 (but RS-232 almost is). You'll want to get one of their serial models like the BR-355-S4 and the associated adapter cable BR-305 RS-232. Then you should be able to do what you want.
You'll need to connect pin 2 of the DB-9 on the adapter to the data in wire on the radio and pin 5 to the data ground wire. On ICOM radios, the NMEA input is a coaxial wire, so you'd connect pin 2 to the center conductor and pin 5 to the shield. You can cut the male PS/2 (keyboard) connector off the adapter and wire it directly to your 5V power converter.
The datasheet says it defaults to 4800 8n1 and NMEA 0183 format, so it might Just Work™. But I wouldn't count on it, so make sure you have a laptop with a serial port handy to configure it.
