SeaTalkng terminator location

Vote 0 Votes

Installing Raymarine iTC-5 and i70 instrument. Can I run the power to the center connection on the iTC, with a terminator on one SeaTalk connection, cable to i70, and second terminator on the second connector on the i70? This will be the interim network with N2K backbone added later for additional electronics.

Thanks,
Dennis

  • The terminators are for the backbone, the i70 requires a spur cable. If you have only these two components in your system and a single (spur) cable between, fit the two terminators to the backbone (Blue) connectors on the iTC-5

  • I think Paul's concept is fine -- essentially the Tee inside the ITC becomes the backbone -- but the little network still needs power and a blue STng power drop will not fit into the white port on the i70. That's , because the spur ports have an extra pin, explained here:

But you might get away with putting power in one of the ITC blue ports and running a white-to-white spur cable from ITC to i70, either with no termination or just one on the other blue ITC port.

It's definitely not Kosher, and I definitely did not recommend it to you without calling Raymarine first, but I think it might work.

(While CANbus/N2K/STNG networks definitely perform better when the backbone is properly terminated, it may not be necessary with just two devices and a short cable run.)
