Hi Ben,
I am thinking of replacing one of my three 5212 Garmin's with an updated unit ,mainly to speed up the reception of weather through XM weather. Do most folks think it's worth the extra grand or so to bring in the 8000?
The 5212's have been great by the way.

Hi Ray!
I've only had little time with a Garmin 8000 but they seem amazingly fast. However, I'm not sure that will speed up XM Weather, because I think the bottleneck is the low bandwidth of the satellite transmissions combined with the fact that the satellite is sending all weather for the whole U.S. coast to each receiver.
I was going to suggest that you try Garmin's GDL 40 cellular weather system -- which is fast -- but am surprised to see that it's been discontinued:
