Replacing Old Garmin Kit...

Vote 0 Votes

So I have been lurking here for quite some time, but finally bought a new (to me) boat that has a whole Garmin suite, circa 2006. The boat currently has a 3210 GPS, GMR 18 Radar (non-hd), GSD 22 Sounder, and a GMS 10 tying it all together.

Working in IT, this kit feels more than a bit sluggish and tired. I've been trying to play catch up a bit and find the best replacement for my buck. So, I turn to you folks!

Should I replace the 3210 with something else in Garmin's lineup and try and salvage my other pieces? From what I have read, the GMR 18 is just so/so anyway, and a lot of people curse the GSD 22.

Should I do a full rip and replace? The kit from Raymarine after Flir has bought them looks pretty damn impressive.

Furuno also seems to have some very trick tech going on with the TZT series.

Any guidance would truly be appreciated. This is on a smaller 26 foot pilot house vessel (C-Dory Venture 26).

  • I'm facing the same issue and interested in folks suggestions. I really like BlueCharts, and always preferred Garmin's more logical menu system compared with my old C series Raymarine. Also like the integration with Garmin's BlueChart Mobile app and HomePort for planning and route transfer. I'm particularly interested in the radar option HD or nonHD? Does it really make much of a practical difference?
