Raymarine to Simrad

Vote 0 Votes

I am considering changing from Raymarine electronics to Simrad in my 28 foot power boat. Currently, I have an E120 classic MFD, DSM 300 sounder, RD424 4KW radome, SPX 10 autopilot with ST70 pilot control head, and Flir Navigator 2 thermal camera, and Raystar 125 GPS antenna.

I know if I get a Simrad NSS or NSE unit, I will need to change my radar dome, sounder and transducer, GPS antenna, but will I need to change my autopilot ?

I am hoping I can still keep my X10 autopilot, if I can, will I lose any functionality ?

  • Sure you can keep your X10.

As Ray had some issues with SeatalkNG (their NMEA2000 interpretation) you may be better of interfacing the Simrad MFD via NMEA 0183 though. The Simrad will send out waypoint information on both, just a question of what the X10 will eat.

If you go for NMEA-0183 make it a two way connection so that your compass heading can be shown on the MFD.
