Can I use a NMEA heading sensor (iwas thinking Airmar) as a replacement for my faulty fluxgate compass on the Navman G pilot 3100. Being a retiree I don't need the expense of a complete new system if there is an alternative.
Thanks
David

David,
I have used the nmea-0183 output on the Airmar to drive an autopilot (not Navman) with good results.
From a brief review of the installation manual on internet for your autopilot I believe that it is not an option for you, but I could be wrong.
1. The manual shows 1 or even 2 nmea-0183 inputs can be configured. Good
2. The manual explictly lists the nmea inputs it recognizes, and that does not include heading. - Bad
You need to call your autopilots tech support to learn if the manual is correct on this point, or if new software is available to recognize an external compass.
hi wishleon and dan,
did it work to hook up the airmar sensor to the navman g-pilot? i'm having the same trouble and hope to find a solution. thank you
