hello everybody,
am looking for tiny/small gps module [targeted for marine navigation] to connect via USB port on my laptop. Here are some criteria:
- should have - sensitive/accurate [more channels] receiver
- should have - gps logger
- should be - small
- weathereproof
- USB connection [or some better way of connection?]
- should be recognizable on both WIN7 and Linux OS
- compatible with various marine navigation software
perhaps some of above mentioned points are not necessarry to fulfil, i am not very familiar in this field of hardware equipment.
maybe you have some better advice - I'll be happy for it!
if anybody of you be so kind ang send me some links on (non-expensive) shops in US/Canada.
I am from EU.
Thank you for your time helping me!
Tom.
Check out the USGlobalSat BU-353 USB GPS. Available on amazon and eBay.
Tomas, not sure there's a straight USB GPS that does logging but at least one Bluetooth/USB one does. It's the i-Blue 747A+ Data Logger. I tested an earlier version and it worked well: http://goo.gl/E2jqC
thanks for your instant reply!
i will go through your suggestions!
i ve found small Mobile Action (taiwan co.), they provide article called i-got-u http://www.i-gotu.com/ but i ve never heard about this company. Do you have any references? The product looks like a toy than a professional gps tool. What's your point of view?
Comparing the SirfStar3 with the SirfStar4 based gps
performance creates surprise that there are still so many SirfStar3 units still on the market - both Bluetooth and usb based. For example GlobalsatUSA still sells the BU-353 USB GPS on Amazon for $37. when you can buy the BU-353S4 there for $40 - a vastly better product. The SirfStar4 has been available for over a year. Strange. Based on my comparison testing I would not consider buying a gps that is not at least SirfStar4 based. Brian
