Connecting autopilot via NMEA2000

Vote 0 Votes

Hi all. I can't seem to get waypoints from my plotter or plotting software to my autopilot and am looking for some advice.

My system:
- Furuno NN3D MFD
- PC running Rose Point CE with Actisense NGT-1
- Simrad AP25 autopilot

The AP25 is kind of old but it does have N2K (Simnet). The N2K connection works fine for passing heading data to the AP or getting rudder angle data from it.

However, "activating" a waypoint or route either on NN3D or Rose Point doesn't do anything on the AP. As far as I can tell, the "Navsrc" on the AP25 is set to the NN3D MFD.

All thoughts appreciated.

  • Answered own question; Navnet3D was not set up to send waypoint and XTE data via NMEA2000. Weird thing is, it was sending that data anyway, as confirmed by Maretron N2KAnalyzer. But until it was "officially" enabled the AP couldn't see it. All working well now.

  • Hi Adam,

I'd be interested to see the difference in terms of N2K packet logs. AP control is next on my to-do list as I've now got an application lined up for that.

    Thanks,
