NavNet - Time Zero Connection

Vote 0 Votes

Greetings sages:

I have Furuno's NavNet 3D with a 12" MFD for my helm station (just upgraded to version 2.05) and the 1.7 version of MaxSea Time Zero (MXTZ) Explorer for my laptop. Prior to the NavNet upgrade, the two communicated well -- routes in one would synch to the other, I could see radar on both, etc.

Now, I get error messages on my NavNet when the MXTZ is turned on ... and the "Synch NavNet" button on the MXTZ is grayed out (hmmm???)

Specifically, my MFD registers: Missing Position Data and Missing Heading Data errors.

I have tried re-running Connection Wizard on both MFD and my laptop (yes, up to grade re: specs ...) to no avail.

Sigh.

I'm in the South Pacific, with slow or non-existent internet, and am having a major problem downloading the 500 meg upgrade file (to v1.9) for MXTZ ... (PS -- why don;t they break these files into manageable chunks for distant cruisers???? -- I can download iTunes movies and iTunes manages to keep track of where the download was terminated, and resumes when I can re-establish contact -- seems a doable technology for these HUGE nav files???)

Any ideas? Any similar issues? Am I missing a checkbox in some buried menu?

Thanks in advance ...

  • The problem you have is two incompatible software versions have been loaded it does specifically say on the offical upgrade notice for 2.05 that you must use MXTZ 1.9 or higher with that software.

My suggestion if you cant download 1.9 MXTZ is to downgrade to 2.02 MFD sw

i can get you some links if you dont have them reply back

  • fyi also u could use a download manager such as getright or many other good download managers to allow you to finish off the download :)

  • Thanks for both suggestions; I was able to download and install 1.9 (8 hour download at Bora Bora internet site -- at least I had nice views of the mountain). I still have a problem, except now it's TZ that indicates "position lost" -- my NN3D runs fine (before it was error messaging when TZ loaded (thanks Andy!) ...

When I run automatic setup, TZ "sees" ARPA ... when I go manual, I can choose NMEA -- but in either case, I still get Missing Position and no link to NN3D -- or vice versa (i.e., NN3D can't see TZ, and TZ can't see NN).

Should I re-install NN3D 2.05? Am I missing a menu? The TZ "Synch to NN3D button is greyed out ...

    Many thanks!

  • Also, when I try to initiate the NN3D setup wizard form my MFD, it spins endlessly (well, for 10 minutes) "Initializing" ... so I have to to a hard reboot ...

  • ok try this.

goto the connection wizard and then clear all the connections

run an automatic and see if that cures it.

if not add a manual navnet connection then go to the port monitor and see what is coming in via the network.

it almost sounds like something is blocking the nmea port (stupid question i know but can u check all the firewalls are off)

also what IP address are you using?

    Andy

  • ok that seems odd.

what software did you load in your MFD the full software or the patch one?

    Andy

  • Hi Andy:

We're now in the Kingdom of Tonga; no luck on connecting MSTZ and NN3D ... I did what you suggested -- cleared all to factory; then went manual, chose NMEA, and then checked port monitor (nmea) and see no data coming thru ... it's not a stupid question re: firewall -- i just feel stu[id in not even knowing how to check!

    Any ideas?

    many thanks!

  • Hi Andy:

Figured it out; duh. The firewalls were turned on. Works like a charm now.

You're a genius; keep asking "stupid" questions!

  • Glad you got it sorted out Jon :)

Is the system running more stable using the latest sw ?
