Lowrance HDS-10 as an AIS platform?

Vote 0 Votes

I'd like to figure out what my best options are with respect to AIS class B transponders and utilizing my HDS-10 as the display platform. The HDS menu system includes an AIS module to display targets and approach info. Communications available include NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 RS-422, NMEA 0183 RS-232 and a single round plug ethernet port. I'll likely want to use the ethernet for structurescan sounder input but I suppose that can be expanded if thats my best AIS option?

I haven't seen any reviews of the Navico NAIS-300L transponder on the blog. Its NMEA2000 networkable and its the same mfgr as the MFD so would that be a logical route to take? Any other recommendations?

  • Whoops, right after I posted the above I saw the previous post regarding ais on the hds. I didn't answer all my questions but I guess I could have done a little archive searching.
