Compatability Lowrance LCX111CHD to SH GX2100

Vote 0 Votes

Will the old generation Lowrance connect to and display AIS data from the new SH AIS VHF? Will it connect to the SH to provide GPS data for the DSC?

I would love to install the GX2100 on my boat to replace my 11 year old Icom which has no DSC capability. Obviously if they are not compatible the 2100 would not be a best choice.

My Lowrance is connected to a GPS (LGC2000) and a transducer for the sounder/fish finder function as well as a paddle wheel speedometer with a water temperature sensor.

Surely there is a way.

Thank you.

  • Afraid not, Butch. The LCX111C manual is still downloadable at lowrance.com and there's no mention of AIS. That's not surprising, really, as support for AIS takes a fair amount of programming and a NMEA 0183 high speed input, and it was very rare in MFDs developed during this time period.

I don't think that Lowrance supports plotting of DSC targets received from a radio either.

  • Ben,

Thank you for the reply. I feared the answer would be a negative as to the AIS. There goes the SH GX 2100.

I read somewhere, perhaps here, that the Lowrance DSC VHF is compatible with the LCX111CHD for making DSC distress calls and for polling with other Lowrance VHFs.

Given the constraints of my MFD and the cost of a more modern replacement I'll simply try to find a DSC VHF I can use for distress calls, Lowrance or otherwise.

Too bad Lowrance has not or can not upgrade the X111 software to allow owners to take advantage of today's technology. When my MFD fails I'll know what to do.
