flexible push-pull cables

Vote 0 Votes

I've decided I DESPARATELY need some extremely flexible and slick Morse-Type cables, and I recall a new entrant into the market advertising here or Soundings Trade Only, but I can't find them. Has anyone experimented recently with control cables? Am I likely to find some that can handle a 5" radius bend? Will they shift like slicing butter?

  • Sorry, Sandy, I don't think you saw those cables here, cause I've never heard tell of them.

  • Don't know if your need is still desparate but I only just saw this post.
Our Morse throttle cable just parted the weekend before last when we were about to leave the Kiel Canal lock on the baltic side. 15 other pleasureboats and a container ship honking for us to get the hell out of there because we were blocking everything...
I replaced both cables with RCS brand (http://www.rcscables.com/; not much to learn from that page, though). The seller (Germany's official Yanmar representative who also sells Morse) told me they are "at least ten times better than Morse". They are supposed to be able to handle a 5cm radius bend (about two inches) though I managed to avoid that in my installation.
The work a noticeably smoother than the old ones but then they are 5 times as expensive.
The old ones lasted 10 years so the new ones should do a hundred - at least.
I'll let you know then if they made it through...

  • Thanks Henning.

There is also a German website that has a little bit more info on RCS.

  • Thanks! I replaced with Morse cables, and managed to avoid tight bends, but I'm glad to see these!
