HELP ME - Garmin 7610 or Raymarine a98

Vote 0 Votes

I'm sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance for asking. I am REALLY struggling with choosing an MFD for my 22' boat. I use it in eastern Long Island Sound to primarily fish (that's my hobby). I narrowed down my choices between 2 units but do not know enough to make a final decision. I am looking at one Garmin 7610xsv and two (with rebates) Raymarine A98's (If I have room which I am 88% sure I do). I've read a lot of information but always seems to have a bias. My paralysis by analysis tells me the Raymarine has the chart advantage (Navionics and others) and Garmin has better sonar when comparing transom mount transducers (CPT 100 vs GTM 51). Garmin fans accuse Raymarine of having fake chirp with the $90 transducer. Raymarine fans say I don't need sidescan and our charting options are better. The new Garmin 7610xsv seems real nice, but the Raynarine and its rebate seems real nice, too, for the money. I ultimately want the better fishfinder chartplotter. What do you recommend? Does Raymarine's A98 with a $90, CPT 100 transducer given excellent chirp results? I fish less than 200'.
