ECDIS on boat simulator

Vote 0 Votes

This is my first post here,...

We have built a RIB simulator. It is a professional training device to be used by navy/marines/police/pilots/SAR operators. The system is on a 6DOF motion base comparable to the ones used in flight simulation.

Currently it is great to train helmsman for boat handling but we want to extend the scope and add a commercially available MFD. For that to work properly, we have to fake the GPS signal and being able to generate our own maps for (non existing) training environments.

We can easily put NMEA messages on a 0183 line or N2k bus, but could anyone advice on which plotter accepts external GPS data over NMEA? Additionally we'll send engine data, AIS, etc to be displayed on the MFD (that allready works on the Advansea T56 I took from my own boat).

At a later stage we'll add radar simulation as well, but for now we concentrate on the chartplotting with AIS overlay,...

Any ideas? Thanks in advance,

Maarten
