I guess I am kind of a lucky sailor in that I am looking to upgrade all communication/navigation equipment on Artemo.
Having spent a year in the Caribbean, we are back working to earn some more boat bucks, but will soon be heading down to the boat in Cartegena.
Except for the Icom 802 SSB setup, I am looking to upgrade:
Chart Plotter, Radar, AIS Transceiver, VHF DSC, Heading Sensor, electronic charts.
I have a flexible budget, but.... Key factors would be reliability, connectivity, ease of use, moderately low power consumption and cost. As far as the Chart plotter, nothing larger than 12" and nothing smaller than 8". The radar should be a 24" 4KW dome. I would hope that I could have a NEMA 2000 backbone and that all the devices would play nice.
Our next adventure will take us on the Pacific puddle jump. Anyone interested in providing their opinion on a shopping list. My budget would be 5000 to 7000 dollars.
