MTA Survey 2011, let's do it!

The MTA Spring 2011 Survey is ready for your input.  One of several sections I'll be quite interested in is the one where respondents write in the marine electronics brands that have exceeded or fallen below their expectations. As discussed last April, the results indicate both brand recognition and perception, and I wonder if we'll see any significant changes. The poll is very similar to last year's, taking about twenty minutes and earning either Doctors Without Borders or Internews (your choice) one dollar. The major reward, though, is the chance to let the industry know what you want. The MTA 2011 Survey awaits.

There--did it

But I suspect that Panbo readers are hardly a representative sample of the general boating public. I think they are much more tech-savvy, and have invested a lot more in electronic gizmos than the average. Still, I am flattered that MTA is interested in my opinion.

Rick R, thank you for taking the survey!

You are probably right on all counts.

However, we would call PANBO readers the 'Power User' group. As such, your opinions and habits offer valuable insight into the current state and potential future of a number of marine electronics markets.

In the first 24 hours, we have had nearly 100 responses.

Progress report(s) coming soon.

Good Evening PANBO:

Here is a little something from the survey:

24.3% of 2011 respondents so far report that 'the brand is already installed' is 'Not Important' when they are shopping new systems.

Last year, only 17.2% of respondents reported this way.

What are the implications of this?

We will be tracking this question, and dozens of others in real time, and comparing 2011 results with 2010.

Thank you for taking the survey.

Question 7 has a small error: There is no choice for 250 to 500 miles as an answer to "what is the furthest distance you travel away from the coast"

Thank you for the observation Dan - we have updated question 7.

Good Evening PANBO:

Another burst from the early returns.

2 out of 3 users of renewable energy/ alternative power subsystems (solar, wind, hydro, fuel cell) state that they will be investing in upgrades during the next 3 years.

This is consistent with the finding from last year's survey.

Are the operator experiences that good that users are looking to buy new systems for new applications? Are they failing and requiring replacement? Are new solutions offering materially better value?

We will be looking into it.

Meanwhile, survey responses are nearing 200 but are a little slower than last year.

Please give this survey a chance if you have not considered it yet. The industry will be regarding the results and applying what makes sense to them to better serve you.

Thank you.
