Maximus

The listing is a little coy, but that’s definitely the mighty Maximus on the block for maximum millions. The equipment lists are interesting, but there are several items I can’t figure out, like:

Load Cell Pin Safe Ltd, 1 system
Falcon 16 emergency system Furuno, 1
Man-overboard alert system Marine Alert, 1

Anyone? They also don’t list what software’s on the two laptops.

Load cells on racing sailboats are used to measure the load on a specific part of the rig (mast, stays, etc.) electronically. Generally, they are used to measure headstay tension. This data is invaluable to the sail trimmers and sailmakers when they are trying to get the rig "just right" for the sail that they have chosen. The load cell is generally installed at the base of the headstay where it connects to the chainplate. Generally the load cell is connected to the instruments (in this case B&G) and the data is displayed wherever it is needed.

Thanks, Duncan, good explanation. I think some of these bigger boats have numerous load cells, sometimes fiber optic ones. But I've never heard of Pin Safe Ltd.

On board of Maximus, you will find the new Navigation Software EXPEDITION. This is the same navigation software on board of Morning Glory - ABNAMRO and 6 out of the 8 Volvo70
